Verdict

Grethel, who ran a blinder at Ripon on Sunday, can provide the key to a tricky race, while News Of The Day, Heaven's Gates and Kiss Chase are forwarded as others to consider. A bold show from Hawkitt in the 4.00pm race will bolster the chances of Kiss Chase, whose form is closely matched with Peter Montieth's charge. The son of Val Royal has already tucked a couple of victories under his belt this term and it would come as no surprise to see him involved in the thick of the action. Heaven's Gates is open to improvement at this trip and is one to bear in mind if supported. Kevin Ryan's charge has stamina on his dam's side and it would not be a bolt from the blue to see him go close. New Of The Day - winner of a lowly seller for Mark Johnston before joining her current yard - has been enjoying her racing of late and comes here in good heart. Her in-form trainer will have been encouraged by her success over hurdles at Market Rasen and has the option of both codes for this improving filly. This trip should suit her back on the level and a big effort looks on the cards. However, Grethel makes a touch more appeal for a small stakes investment, as she has been crying out for a step up in distance. The likelihood of double figure odds will be a tempting proposition for this daughter of Fruits Of Love and se rates as a fair each-way option in a very modest contest for the finale.
