      Verdict

      A chance is taken with Major Magpie, who may be given the most to do by Balwearie and Otranto. The last named was eating up the ground near the finish at Catterick last week and would have got up in another couple of strides. Royston Ffrench knows the colt well from his time in Dubai and it will come as no surprise to see him make more use of his mount today. Balwearie has bits and pieces of form that give him claims at this level. He knows his way around here and can help to make this a good test. However, Major Magpie has been crying out for another crack at this trip and is fancied to find a touch more improvement when push comes to shove.
