    Verdict

Gazboolou sets the standard from those with experience and is fancied to be hard to beat in this company, while Mark Johnston, who won this with Shamardal a couple of seasons ago, has another leading player with Palo Verde. Coconut Queen - a half-sister to a couple of winners as juveniles - is another interesting debutante to monitor in the betting. Coconut Queen is bred to appreciate a least a mile in due course and is sure to benefit from the run today. Her yard have enjoyed a good spell and a market move will be noteworthy. Palo Verde is related to, amongst others, the high-class Millstream, who went on to Group-race success after making a winning debut for Johnston several years ago. Therefore it will be interesting to see how Palo Verde develops from here. Again the betting market will give a good gauge towards his chances of getting off the mark at the first time of asking. However, Gazboolou really caught the eye on his debut and, with experience counting for plenty at this stage of his career, this son of Royal Applause gets the nod on the evidence available.
