You couldn't ask for a tougher start to proceedings so preference for ABBONDANZA over Fishforcompliments and Dabbers Ridge can only be described as marginal. Dandy Nicholls' charge won six times before coming unstuck at Redcar on his latest outing. All of those victories came in plating races but what they show is that he's enjoying his racing and he's worth another try in a handicap. At his best a 100+ rated performer, this mark of 81 appears fair and the booking of Nina Carberry adds confidence. Fishforcompliments ran on well for second when backed to take a similar contest last time. Richard Fahey's charge runs off the same mark and enjoys a stiff finish, but he's notoriously hard to win with and for that reason is just opposed. Dabbers Ridge won a pair of Beverley handicaps earlier on this term to advertise his liking for a stiff finish too and a mark of 73 allows room for manoeuvre on the pick of his form. Flowing Cape is 7lbs higher than when winning at Leicester but should remain competitive of this rating as he has since, Vhujon should be suited by the field size but is probably better at six furlongs while Ocean Legend has been climbing the handicap in finishing second. Rosko and Piquante are both trying headgear for the first time and may improve for it and along with King's Colour, a game winner at Epsom, add depth to this fascinating contest, one taken to go to Abbondanza.
