In depth

Verdict

CHURCHILL is regarded as one of the Royal meeting’s bankers and rightly so if he brings his best form to the table. Though Barney Roy was possibly a shade unlucky when beaten a length by the Ballydoyle colt in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, the winner was even more impressive when beating another Godolphin runner, Thunder Snow, in the Irish 2000 Guineas and is following a tried and tested route for classic winners. Lancaster Bomber is easily held on the form book and Peace Envoy is the likely pacemaker. Forest Ranger and Mr Scaramanga look to be swimming out of their depth but Rivet is a Group 1 winner and has been far from disgraced in three runs this term, possibly not staying in the French Derby last time – he could sneak into the frame if one of the principals has an off-day.
