Verdict

Aidan O'Brien has won this twice again since Yeats' famous four-timer and Kingfisher would be Ballydoyle's seventh winner in the last 10 runnings if successful. But the latter has plenty to find with the unbeaten Forgotten Rules on their form at Navan last month where Dermot Weld's charge won a Group 3. He also beat Biographer in the Long Distance Cup over 2m in testing ground here in October but may be worth taking on today if it remains fast going. Luca Cumani would love to add the Gold Cup to his extensive list of Group 1 prizes and looks to have an excellent chance with MIZZOU (NAP). The distance will be no problem for the latter having beaten subsequent Group 3 winner Vent De Force and Forever Now in the Sagaro Stakes here on his reappearance so he gets the vote. Tac De Boistron is a high-class stayer on softer ground and so is the French raider Bathyrhon while Simenon found only Estimate too good on good to firm in the 2013 renewal, though finished behind Vent De Force and Trip To Paris at Sandown last time. Sandown's Esher Stakes winner Havana Beat is preferred to stablemate Scotland as the latter and Windshear step up in distance but Kalann has a third over 2m2f in the Doncaster Cup to his credit.
