Shrewsbury and Burton played out a 0-0 draw in a game of few clear chances at Montgomery Waters Meadow.
Shrewsbury's Ryan Giles saw an early shot deflected over the bar before Burton started to ask questions of the home defence, with Oliver Sarkic heading Colin Daniel's cross straight at goalkeeper Max O'Leary.
John Brayford then drove over for the visitors before Shrewsbury midfielder Josh Laurent's strong run ended with his low shot being kept out by goalkeeper Kieran O'Hara.
Shrewsbury created a good chance early in the second half when Shaun Whalley's cross from the right eventually fell the way of Dave Edwards, but the former Wales international fired off target.
An effort from Laurent on the turn then cleared the Burton bar, while at the other end Lucas Akins headed a corner wide.
Ethan Ebanks-Landell was next to go close for the home side when he headed a Giles corner wide, but both defences remained resolute to ensure the scoresheet remained blank.
