Interim boss Graeme Murty thinks Rangers would benefit from bringing their month-long search for a new manager to an end.

Graeme Murty believes it would be beneficial for Rangers if they concluded their search for a new manager soon - even if it is not him.

More than four weeks have now passed since Pedro Caixinha was sacked, with Murty taking charge as interim boss for three games in the time since.

He has a fourth game at the helm on Friday away to Dundee - a venue he lost at as caretaker earlier in the year - and concedes the club could do with making progress off the park.

Murty said: "I said at the start when I came in that I don't think about my status or my role. I think about what is best for the players and the football club.

"That hasn't changed and my outlook hasn't changed at all. It would be good for all involved if we had someone in place, whether that be me or someone else.

"But until that happens we are coping. We are actually moving forward. The players are working extremely hard. They are doing their bit - that's all they can think about.

"I can't think about it either so if there are people outwith the club speculating and saying things, they can crack on.

"We'll just make sure that things in-house are taken care of properly. I realise people want things resolved.

"I realise they need a resolution but these things can't be hurried. They have to take time to make sure this appointment is the correct one. As far as I'm aware, the search is still ongoing."

Murty maintains his players are focused on getting Rangers up the Scottish Premiership table from fourth place after their surprise 2-0 defeat to Hamilton last weekend.

He insists uncertainly about who will be leading them in the long term is not having an effect and added: "It could have an impact if the players allow it to have an impact.

"I'm a firm believer that you take charge of your own destiny so that we can't afford to look out with our own little group.

"If the players are concentrating too much on 'It could be this guy, it could be that guy, he likes this kind of player', they'll forget to focus on what is really important, prepping properly every day."

Murty, meanwhile, has dismissed media suggestions defender Bruno Alves refused to play in the loss against Hamilton.

The Portugal international instead missed the game due to a back injury and consequently misses the trip to Dens Park with the same problem.

Murty said: "Two newspapers reported a story that was untrue saying Bruno had refused to be selected.

"One of those papers has printed an apology today and the other has been encouraged to do so but has yet to print one.

"As far as I'm concerned, you're questioning the character and integrity of a fellow who has just gone and won the European Championships.

"It's completely out of order. I've spoken to Bruno and he was quite clear he's never done that and would never do that."
