Sam Winnall scored a hat-trick, with Conor Hourihane and Devante Cole also on target as Barnsley beat Burton 5-0 in the FA Cup.
Barnsley debutant Marcello Trotta had an early effort blocked on the goal-line by Burton's Robbie Weir. Weir then had a low shot turned wide by Ross Turnbull and the home goalkeeper also saved Shane Cansdell-Sherriff's header from the resulting corner. Winnall opened the scoring in the 40th minute after Trotta's shot had been saved by Dean Lyness. Winnall added a second goal just two minutes later, beating Lyness with a low shot after receiving a fine pass from Hourihane. Burton's Alex MacDonald fired in a fiercely driven free-kick which thumped against the crossbar. But Hourihane made it 3-0 in the 56th minute when Martin Cranie's ball found him in space inside the area and he scored with ease. Winnall completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute, finding the net at the second attempt after his initial shot came back off a post. Substitute Cole rounded off the scoring, capitalising on further slack defending in the 83rd minute.
