Heureux has shown enough in two starts to suggest that he can take the honours in a race of this nature and is preferred to Madaares and Sir Orpen. The selection showed promise on his debut but stepped up on that when finding just Johannes too good in the Convivial Maiden at the Ebor meeting over course and distance earlier this month. A reproduction of that effort should suffice for Howard Johnson's colt. Mark Johnston saddles two newcomers with Madaares, a half-brother to Nashaaba and the mount of Kieren Fallon, preferred to Avoca Dancer of the Middleham-based trainer's pair. Peter Chapple-Hyam's Me showed promise on her Newbury debut and is entitled to come on for the run but would probably want a faster surface so a bigger threat may come from David Barron's Sir Orpen, who showed improved form at Carlisle last time and may do better still now that he tackles a softer surface. Heureux has an obvious chance though and he gets the vote.
