It looks significant that Kieren Fallon rides Damson rather than Virginia Waters and the hint is taken with Maids Causeway and Discuss rated the best of the remainder. The selection was high class as a two-year-old when landing the Queen Mary and Phoenix Stakes prior to a creditable third in the Cheveley Park. David Wachman's filly found the soft ground against her on her reappearance and back on a faster surface the daughter of Entrepreneur is taken to resume winning ways. Aidan O'Brien's Virginia Waters was impressive when landing the 1,000 Guineas but subsequent defeats in the Irish Guineas and the Oaks, plus Fallon's decision to ride Damson, temper enthusiasm and a bigger threat may come from Maids Causeway, who filled second place behind the O'Brien filly at Newmarket and reversed that form in teh Irish 1,000. Cape Columbine, who finished fifth at Newmarket and Karen's Caper in fourth at headquarters again take each other on, while Dermot Weld's Irish 1,000 Guineas fourth Utterly Heaven is another to consider although of more interest may be Sir Michael Stoute's lightly raced Discuss. Damson is the most interesting runner though and, provided the rain stays away she looks worth a bet to justify Fallon's opinion of her.
