A hugely competitive renewal featuring several improving young stayers. Proschema finished third in the Melrose here in August, when Midnight Wilde was well behind, before taking his chance in the St Leger. John Gosden runs two with Almoghared lightly raced and Surya on a hat-trick. Mark Johnston is also double-handed with Elegiac in better form than Lynwood Gold at present, though he was quickly left behind by CANFORD HEIGHTS (NAP) at Haydock last time. That was the latter’s first run in a handicap and first win on Turf and he could not have been more impressive. Andrea Atzeni is a significant jockey booking and William Haggas’ colt can defy an 8lb rise to complete the three-timer. Astromachia and Rare Groove are also on hat-tricks and Glasses Up could be interesting if he lasts home. Bartholomeu Dias usually runs well without being quite good enough.
