In depth

Verdict

Echo of Light should appreciate the drop back in class having been well held, but not disgraced, the Sussex Stakes last time and gets the vote to resume winning ways ahead of Nayyir and Olympian Odyssey. The last mentioned failed to stay in the French Derby when last seen but has solid claims on the evidence of his third in the 2,000 Guineas previously. Lack of a recent run is of concern for the three-year-old though and he may be best watched at present. Mark Johnston's Nakheel has done nothing wrong and may well improve sufficiently to take a hand here so he has to be respected and rates a bigger threat than Sir Michael Stoute's Stage Gift, who is not certain to appreciate the drop back in distance. Metropolitan Man needs to improve on all known form and of more interest may be Gerard Butler's Nayyir, who still retains ability at the age of eight but is proving to be difficult to catch right. Echo of Light is a lightly raced five-year-old though and is taken to make the most of the drop in grade.
