In depth

Verdict

Leslingtaylor needs a market check on his first run since May, however ELITE LAND is one of just a few in the race who have no worries over ground and trip and he can see off Oddsmaker. Brian Ellison's six-year-old races off a mark of 61 today which is just 4lb above his highest winning mark. He is likely to be fresh after a three month break and this useful dual-purpose horse looks sure to run well with the cheek-pieces discarded with. Oddsmaker is a course winner and he bounced back to form last time out at Musselburgh after quite a long spell in the wilderness; a 5lb rise doesn't leave him out of calculations. Applaude hasn't been in bad form of late but this is a step up in class from those claiming races. His improvement seems to have coincided with the application of the blinkers but they are discarded for cheek-pieces today. Force Group has a promising jockey on board which must be a plus, as is the ground, but he has never won over this trip. The step back up in trip looks likely to suit Dechiper, Resentful Angel is one of several in the race who have stamina to prove, whilst They All Laughed would probably prefer quicker ground. Stateside is consistent and handles the ground, Sporting Gesture still looks well-treated, whilst Grandad Bill was second to Oddsmaker last time out and he has a decent pull in the weights this afternoon. An open finale to round off the card, but we are happy to side with Elite Land.
