DESIDERIO is taken to emerge as the best of this modest bunch. Deo Valente may be good value for a place, whereas Mick Is Back and Blacktoft are old hands in races of this nature and cannot confidently be ruled out. Blacktoft does have to give weight away to the rest and even with William Carson easing the burden with his 5lb claim, he needs to be at his very best today. Mick Is Back went close in a seller here last month and should again be capable of making his presence known. He has paid his way in this grade and looks a good bet to make the first four if all 16 stand their ground. Deo Valente was gelded earlier in the season and makes only his second appearance since the operation. Only time will tell if it proves to be the making of him as a racehorse, but the fact the son of Dubai Destination finds himself in this grade tells its own story and he is not one to be diving overboard with on the evidence available. The booking of Jamie Spencer does boost his claims today, though. However, preference goes the way of Desiderio, who arrives here in good form and, as he gets on very well with 7lb claimer Charles Eddery, he will rarely be presented with an easier chance to add to his tally than this.
