In depth

Verdict

It was a surprise that Tynecastle Park didn’t appear to handle soft going at Nottingham as he’d won on Fibresand earlier. Ice Canyon was second off this mark at Thirsk last year and Ghadbbaan won at that track at the start of the month, though has gone up 5lb. Tigray seems best at Southwell, however. SIR CANFORD is having a first run since November but had wind surgery last month and Ali Stronge has booked Silvestre De Sousa here. The lightly-raced five-year-old had the pace to win over 1m2f in August but stays 2m and could be the answer today. Pax Britannica may be the danger if a run at Chelmsford has blown away the cobwebs.
