A disappointing if large turnout for the maiden handicap, with only a tentative vote going to Mochras ahead of Morefinesse and Edward's Brother. Fulke Johnson Houghton has been out of form but the stable are starting to come out of the doldrums, which augurs well for the chance of Mochras who has a first-rate chance on her second to Maddie's A Jem over six furlongs here in August. On breeding she has every chance of staying the extra trip and providing she does, will be in the shake-up. Morefinesse has found one too good on each of his last two starts and is another worth a try over further. Indeed, Tim Easterby's charge was sent off as favourite at Musselburgh, and if the ground was easier, his chance would increase. Squirtle Turtle tended to hang at Chepstow even with the help of blinkers, so Edward's Brother is preferred of the rest for place claims. He was noted coming from a long way back at Chepstow and will be suited by this mile. it is with no great conviction that Mochras is selected as the answer to a trappy event.
