A wide open showcase race can go to Rule Britannia ahead of the likes of In A Silent Way and Kind Emperor. Reported as running a bit too freely when scoring at Kempton in June, Rule Britannia was then restrained on her next three starts without success. Trainer James Fanshawe then decided to let the filly have her head on a return to Kempton 11 days ago and the move nearly paid off as she kept on well when headed, only beaten half a length in the end by Polish Corridor. Being out of a Bustino mare, more use should be made of her stamina and similar tactics here can pay off before she goes back up in the weights again. In A Silent Way put a bad Newbury run behind her when just touched off in Listed company at Brighton, but is moving up the handicap and will not have regular pilot Philip Robinson on board-mind you Frankie Dettori is a more than able deputy and she should play a part in the finish. Kind Emperor is a standing dish at the seaside track, having turned out here 12 times in his last 14 starts. His three latest victories, not surprisingly have come here, the latest two being over today's distance, and he will not go down without a fight, despite taking a step up in class. Montmartre is a model of consistency and is yet another to consider, while Tusk comes from an in-form stable and Alamouna has the assistance of Kieren Fallon. All in all, it is a hard one to be confident about picking the winner, but we will take Rule Britannia to make all.
