Verdict

Marco Botti has a strong hand here saddling both Saltagioo and Angel Rock, who both have claims, but it is the in-form TARTAN GIGHA that gets the verdict. Mark Johnston's gelding stepped up on previous efforts of late when winning comfortably at Beverley earlier this month when beating Handsome Falcon by three-and-a-quarter lengths. He was value for more than the winning margin that day though and the son of Green Desert is taken to defy the 6lb penalty for that Beverley success on ground that suits ideally. John Gosden has his team in good form but his runner, Cadre, will need to improve significantly on a disappointing reappearance run to figure here. Godolphin's Stalking Shadow won his last two starts in Abu Dhabi but is much higher in the weights now, while Paul Howling's Gallantry is another that could probably do with some help from the handicapper. Botti's Saltagioo disappointed on his latest start at Kempton but has solid claims on earlier form on the Polytrack, while stable companion Angel Rock should come on for his first outing of the season at Newbury but he needs to. Tartan Gigha has an obvious chance on the form shown when winning at Beverley and a reproduction of that effort may well suffice.
