        Verdict

        There are some interesting newcomers in this contest including Clive Brittain's Shibhan and Marco Botti's Fasilight but it may be best to side with one of those with experience and the vote goes to MAHIKI. Simon Callaghan's filly was a relatively cheap purchase but made her debut in a better race that this at Newmarket earlier this month. She should have learned from that effort where she raced rather freely and weakened two out behind some useful looking types. Michael Wigham's Kaspirit is an obvious danger having found just Desert Auction too good in an auction maiden at Folkestone last month. She was pulled out of two intended prior engagements before that though, including one in a seller, and that contest at Folkestone looked a weak race so she may not represent much in the way of value. Daniella de Bruijn was well held on her debut behind Royal Desert at Bath, while Christine Dunnett's Southwark Newshawk was beaten a long way when last of seven first time up over course and distance. Richard Guest's Minnie Rocket makes less appeal on her debut than either Shibhan or Fasilight but it is Mahiki that is taken to open her account.
