In depth

Verdict

MME DE STAEL has the profile of a filly ready to rack up a sequence and gets a confident vote ahead of Formidable Guest, Bramalea and Dan Buoy. The latter gets on well with Billy Cray and could cause an upset if allowed too much rope up front, but his best form is over much further and we prefer Mme De Stael. Sir Mark Prescott's filly is a madam in more than just name as she had to be ponied to the start and fitted with both a hood and blinkers last time. The trainer's hard work did the trick though as she obliged in taking style, clearly relishing the step up to 1m4f and switch to polytrack, and providing she can bring that Lingfield form here she'll take some beating under a penalty. Formidable Guest has quickly dropped to a nice mark - she won off 72 here in February and now races off 64 - so may well pose the biggest threat to the likely favourite. She has been struggling of late at Kempton but will relish the return to Dunstall Park. Bramalea is of a similar profile as her last win came over course and distance. She's now a pound lower and can improve upon recent turf efforts. National Theatre needs a market check with headgear on for the first time ahead of his handicap debut, Ancient Times hasn't lived up to his price-tag while Hypnotic Gaze may not stay back on the level. Mme De Stael looks one to keep on the right side and can land this contest with something to spare.
