        Verdict

        This ¿18,000 contest has attracted a decent field in the context of the rest of the card, and our vote goes to Appalachian Trail ahead of Brindisi, Cardinal Venture and Nevada Desert. Appalachian Trail was successful here last December, but has found it hard to get his head in front in the main since. His neck defeat by Vortex at Newmarket in May showed that there was still plenty to come though, and he finally gained due reward when outbattling King Marju at Newbury in August. Ian Semple's charge missed out on a crack at the Ayr Gold Cup and lines up fresh and fancied. Brindisi has tackled top company since coming back from a stint in Dubai, her last Turf outing resulting in the Barry Hills-trained filly finishing 12th in the Cambridgeshire. Second to Zayn Zen on her first try on Lingfield's Polytrack last month, she must go close as well. Cardinal Venture made all at Doncaster on Saturday but the ground was soft and he may be taken off his feet here. Nevertheless he has showed his well being and must be considered along with Nevada Desert and yet another course and distance winner Del Mar Sunset. A wide-open and competitive affair can go to Appalachian Trail.
