The cut in the ground will be ideal for Patxaran, who is taken to confirm the promise of his hurdling debut and open his account at the main expense of Toss The Caber and Lodgician. The last mentioned was nothing out of the ordinary on the level but should win races over timber judged by his fair fourth behind Finland at Haydock last month. John Quinn's gelding may prefer a faster surface though so he may prove to be best watched. Tarkar has to be respected representing the yard of Howard Johnson but he lacks any racing experience, while Dennick looks the clear second string of Pat Haslam's two runners. Truckle has run with credit in both starts over timber so far and will not the cut in the ground although a bigger threat may come from Keith Reveley's Toss The Caber, who made a winning debut at Plumpton and has run well in two starts under penalties since. Patxaran was just about the pick of these on the flat though, has already shown decent form over hurdles and represents connections that do well in this grade of contest. He will be tough to beat.
