Tharua is a tentative choice ahead of Brandexe, with Tranquiliser and Clinet expected to make their presence felt. Tharua finished third to Rob Roy on her Newmarket debut last October, and that should make her a ready-made winner of a run-off-the-mill maiden at least. However, Ed Dunlop's filly has been disappointing since to say the least, being a beaten favourite on her next two outings. The soft ground probably did not help at Yarmouth, while at Lingfield she simply did not quicken when asked. We will assume that she needed her return to action here in April when fifth of 12, and with the visor applied, she gets another chance to prove that her debut run was no fluke. Brandexe was an encouraging third in similar company to today's on her return, and can give the selection most to do. Tranquiliser was third at Folkestone but that form is nothing special, while Clinet has topweight and might need the run into the bargain. Tharua has been costly to follow so let us hope that persistence pays off.
