Verdict

OLD ROMNEY is taken to follow up a selling win back in handicap company here, with Bramalea, Rowan Lodge and South Wales obvious alternatives. The selection won with a fair bit more in hand than the official margin suggested when landing a Lingfield seller last time and has won off much higher marks than this in the past. Michael Wigham is a man capable of getting a sequence of wins out of a horse and it would be no surprise to see the follow up bid succeed. Brendan Duke's Bramalea is 5lb higher than when scoring at Great Leighs over this sort of trip and looked to be going the right way there, so we doff the cap to her. Rowan Lodge chases a hat-trick after claiming successes at both Carlisle and Redcar, after which she comes here to race from a 5lb lower mark. However, she has yet to win in six attempts on an artificial surface and we will oppose today. South Wales is another to have flopped in each of three tries on the polytrack. However, he is in much better form of late and despite a 5lb rise since his recent Salisbury success, he has to be taken seriously. Strike Force proved she had some stamina last time and does act well here, so we're not going to dismiss her out of hand, but we prefer the claims of Old Romney, who gets the tentative nod.
