Castle Howard is taken to lose his maiden tag in this intriguing contest, with Abandon and Dan Dare looking dangerous rivals. After showing promise as a two-year-old in good company, Dan Dare won his first race when landing the odds on his re-appearance, and was then thrown into the big time when finishing in mid-division in the Zetland Gold Cup. The winners have been flowing for the yard and he is respected. Abandon has won three of her four starts to date, scoring in a fillies' handicap last time at Pontefract. This is a step up in grade, but she has earned that right. She is yet to prove herself on this ground however and may be worth taking on. Fourth in the November Handicap over this course and distance, Castle Howard kept on well to take second at Headquarters on his re-appearance, having not enjoyed the clearest of runs. He has been raised a pound for that good run, but can land his first race in suitable conditions. Castle Howard can reign supreme.
