Verdict

A tricky handicap to finish with and War Pennant just gets the verdict ahead of Planet and Figaro's Quest. Mick Channon's gelding looked very green last time, but still managed to plug on gamely to beat The Chequered Lady at Lingfield last month. That was his first sign of form and he certainly looks on the upgrade. He is fairly treated for his handicap debut and gets a sporting vote. Planet showed plenty of ability last season and will improve for a recent fourth behind Sirce at Warwick. Meanwhile Figaro's Quest ran a race full of promise when runner up to Royal Flynn at Catterick at the start of the month. Dusty Dane and Tuvalu are well exposed but could also take a hand in the finish, but for the winner we return to War Pennant.
