In depth

Verdict

The 14-year-old Golden Jack has been in good form in recent starts in point-to-points, winning his last three starts, but he may struggle back under regulation fences and preference is for General Blackthorn, who gets the vote over Trade Off. The last mentioned has gone well in hunter chase-company before and is better than recent runs in points would suggest so he has to be considered. Long Night has been largely disappointing of late and of more interest may be the Philip Hobbs-trained Saint Romble, who will be suited by the better ground today than at Stratford last time. The vote though goes to General Blackthorn, who makes his rules debut today but comes here in good form from point-to-points and he is taken to make a winning debut over regulation fences.
