Verdict

Glacial Evening looks the best bet in this weak affair, with others that could run well being See More Snow, Felix, Jolly John and Hill Forts Henry. A repeat of the selection's second to The Bandit at Ascot last time gives him good claims here in what is, as we say, a very modest event. See More Snow has chances based on his third here to Thisthatandtother over two miles in October 2002, although he has not exactly built on that, including over fences on his last two outings. Felix has run only eight times, is well held by Hill Forts Henry on the basis of his recent Exeter run, but still holds chances on his best pieces of form. While his overall form is modest, Hill Forts Henry is another with form enough to be in the money although he is not exactly blessed with gear changes. Jolly John, now 12, is usually ridden by the trainer's wife and, while holding chances on the best of his form, the downside is that he has not raced for 498 days. It would be hard to build a case for the bottom five in the weights although Hornbill showed his first evidence of ability last time up and might improve over this longer trip. County Flyer, who ran fairly well when third at Cartmel in May - despite hanging to his right - has at least won over fences from a mark of 81 (now rated 80), while Working Girl has had just four runs but has been beaten in a seller. This will not take a lot of winning and, for us, Glacial Evening can bring the day to a close with a win.
