Verdict

Celtic Art, three-times a winner on the Flat, beat a subsequent winner on just his second start over timber at Wincanton. Winning point-to-pointer Matata made a successful hurdling debut at Fakenham and has been narrowly beaten in two subsequent starts in better company. Bumper winner Far Sight found 2m3f too far at Taunton but Killaloan made a promising debut for Paul Nicholls at Plumpton and is certain to improve. The four-year-old SPARTAN ARMY, a winner on the Flat for Joseph O'Brien, convincingly won a heavy-ground maiden at Wetherby on his hurdling bow and was sent into Grade 2 company at Chepstow where he ran well for a long way. He can get back on the winning trail with his age allowance a big help.
