In depth

Verdict

NORTHER BAY, a Grade 3 winner over hurdles, hasn't had much luck over the bigger obstacles but his close second to last week's Galway winner Beau Michael at Limerick in May would be good enough to take this. Turf War was a progressive hurdler last season who hasn't done as well as expected to date over fences. He has been a short-priced favourite on his two latest starts but a couple of mistakes appear to have unsettled him and he may need more experience. Ireland's Call ran very well when runner-up to Salesin over the C&D last month and the subsequent easy success of the winner points to the chance of Paul Rothwell's charge, though the stable haven't been in the best of form recently. Bachelor Affair made a promising debut over fences at Clonmel but found 2m4f at Punchestown beyond him later and is back to his best trip.
