Tynedale is a tough sort and he represents good value to confirm his superiority over his old rivals Russian Sky and Totally Scottish. However, this is far from a straightforward task and the likes of Cantgeton, Like A Lord and Haut De Gamme also have to be respected. Haut De Gamme races of a mark 12lb lower than his chase rating and arrives in good heart. The Ferdy Murphy-trained gelding has taken on some useful types of late and should appreciate the ease in grade this afternoon. He holds solid claims at this level. So does Cantgeton, who has also faced a good caliber of opponent since the start of the season. He has steadily crept up the weights after a series of good performances but may still have more to offer. Even so, the form of Martin Pipe's runners is a serious concern and a careful eye on the betting market is recommended before getting involved with the top weight. Like A Lord made all when winning a novice event at Worcester in the summer and is going the right way. This softer surface combined with a long absence and an 8lb higher mark are worries for Sue Smith's representative, though, and, he may have too much on his plate today. Another to mention is the lightly raced River Alder, who comes into the race as the least exposed runner in the field. Her trainer has high hopes for her, with a crack at the Scottish National being the long-term plan. This looks a stepping stone on her way to full fitness and she is one to seriously monitor as the season goes on. Totally Scottish and Russian Sky are capable of making this a real test and are dangerous to rule out. However, they are also notoriously hard to win with and have been very expensive to follow. Therefore, the nomination goes to Tynedale, who still has scope to improve at this stage of his career. A good rest through the summer seems to have revitalised the six-year-old and he looks a fair option for each-way punters to latch onto in an extremely tough race to assess.
