China Cherub relished cut in the ground and blinkers at Windsor last time and can defy a penalty to follow up here, with Rydal Mount, Stamford Blue, Pawan and Observatory Star all meriting respect. The selection is 12lb worse off for two-and-a-half lengths with Rydal Mount, but the way he won suggests that he can still hold that rival here. He may have more to contend with from Stamford Blue, who is in form after a win at Bath last time over this trip, and who also handles cut well. He needs a career best to win but should not be far away. Pawan almost broke Ann Stokell's lengthy drought here last week but this race looks tougher, while Observatory Star will be at home in the conditions and can go close despite being 8lb higher than his highest winning mark. However, China Cherub looks a tough sort and can defy his penalty to score.
