Verdict
Hay Fever's form can't be sniffed at but he's not ideally drawn and Eve Johnson-Houghton hasn't had a winner since May. Captain Imperial can land the spoils, perhaps from Kings Troop. The selection is a rare runner here for Tom Tate but the Tadcaster trainer's only other juvenile runner here in the last five years won and that record can be maintained this afternoon. As a son of Captain Rio, soft ground will hold no fears for him and he shaped with plenty of promise on his debut over six furlongs at Newcastle last time. He has plenty of speed in his pedigree but appeared to get outpaced last time and should have no problem seeing out a seventh furlong on this sharp track and he makes a good bit of appeal. Hay Fever has had a few attempts to get off the mark and cannot be recommended given his trainer's run of form and of more interest is Kings Troop. He wasn't beaten too far in a fair maiden at Nottingham last time and looks to be heading the right way but he qualifies for nurseries after this run and may be more at home in that sphere. It's not very easy to get excited about the achievements of the remainder and two of the newcomers are of more interest. The Millman juveniles are beginning to get going but Sherman McCoy is drawn wide and not an obvious type and a bigger threat may be Admiral Sandhoe. Experience is so often crucial though and Captain Imperial can put his to good use in the opener.
