In depth

Verdict

Only Penang can go one better than she did at Windsor last time, with Craiova, Perisario and Looking Down the main dangers. Rod Millman's filly scored on soft ground at Nottingham on her final start of last season, and returned to form when second to Bond Diamond at Windsor on her latest start. The winner was recently placed in a big handicap at Ascot, so the form looks solid enough and she looks sure to run a big race here. Craiova is a lightly-raced four-year-old who made all for an easy win at Newcastle in maiden company last time and it would be no surprise to see Pat Eddery trying to force the issue on her here. Perisario has only had the two runs before and while James Fanshawe's filly has more on the plate than when scraping home in maiden company at Southwell last year, she could turn out to be a lot better than that bare form suggests. Looking Down was a nursery winner at Goodwood last year and is likely to be fit for her seasonal debut while Barking Mad is fairly treated on its best form and could also run a big race if sharp enough.
