The day's feature event can go to Ossmoses ahead of last year's winner Philson Run, The Bajan Bandit, Eskimo Pie and King Bee. Stamina is definitely the key here as only those capable of lasting home in heavy ground can be considered. Into that category falls Ossmoses who revels in the conditions and who showed his well being by sauntering home in Haydock's Red Square Vodka Gold Cup last month. He had a field of useful opponents well behind that day and so a rise of 12lb was to be expected, but he should still be capable of powering home under in-form Richie McGrath. Last year's winner Philson Run limbered up for this with a hard-fought win in the Eider Chase at Newcastle. It remains to be seen whether those exertions have taken their toll, and he lines up on over a stone higher mark than 12 months ago, but you get the feeling that Paul Carberry will be able to coax him round enough to be involved in the finish again. The Bajan Bandit has it to do off 11st 12lb, but proved that he was no back-number when beating Royal Emperor at Ayr last month. The latter has since won over hurdles and took part in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday, so a rise of 10lb is fair for the former high-class Len Lungo inmate. Big things are expected of Eskimo Pie who sidestepped quite a few engagements at Cheltenham to run here. The seven-year-old might just find this too exacting though and is perhaps best watched, while King Bee's stamina has to be taken on trust, but he showed no signs of stopping when beating Moulin Riche at Haydock and has a feather weight. With Martin Pipe's team not firing on all cylinders at present, his trio cannot be backed with confidence, but Control Man is probably the best of them, and with ground and trip in his favour, it is Ossmoses that catches the eye the most.
