A race rich in numbers but low on quality can go to THE LOCAL, who has dropped to a very attractive mark and has a leading chance in this company. Early Wings and Marked Man are others to consider, while Himba also has a chance of making the frame on the pick of his efforts. The last named has plenty of experience of this course and, as he comfortably brushed aside Devils River here last month; he has to merit a second look today. However, it's also worth bearing in mind he has failed to complete on numerous occasions and has never been noted for consistency. Marked Man hasn't won a race since 2007 and is a bit long in the tooth to be expecting a drastic revival of fortunes. That said, the veteran still races with enthusiasm and, having finished a gallant second at Huntingdon a fortnight ago; he has proved he is still capable of making an impact. Early Wings was placed in a German Group 3 as a juvenile but had his sights lowered over the next couple of seasons. Now a seven-year-old, the Caroline Bailey-trained gelding is unexposed over fences and, having shown promise on his chasing debut at Wincanton earlier in the month; he is open to more improvement than most. However, The Local may be a touch too wily for him at this stage of his career and, as Tony McCoy knows how to get the best out of him; The Local is fancied as the one to be on here.
