In depth

Verdict

Nothing leaps off the page in this finale however under stronger handling MERRION TIGER might be able to get back to winning ways at the main expense of Jackie Kiely and Mister Frosty. The selection is one of several course and distance winners in the race and the drop in trip today won't be a problem. Ian Brennan is a promising young jockey who takes over in the saddle and a bold bid is expected despite his mark of 60 looking high enough. Iceman George is back down to his last winning mark and looks interesting with Pat Cosgrave taking the ride, Highland River is consistent over a variety of trips, whilst Jackie Kiely won easily here in an amateur race last time out but the old-timer faces a stiffer examination of his credentials today in a stronger race off a 5lb higher mark. Bivouac needs a market check on his return to the flat after a spell over timber, They All Laughed is a course and distance winner who has shaped with more promise on his last two starts, whilst Lean Burn needs a market check now stepped up markedly in trip. Mister Frosty is still a maiden after 14 runs but he has run well at the track before, whilst Royal Max is an interesting contender having contested some hot novice' hurdles of late. Reigning In Rio and Unconsoled both have stamina to prove, so they are passed over in favour of Merrion Tiger.
