Plateau has been disappointing, but the drop in grade can help him to bounce back at the expense of Endless Summer, Witchry and Maltese Falcon to name but a few. Plateau gained his last success well over a year ago, but has been tackling much stronger company since, including when a close fifth to stablemate Machinist in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sprint at Ascot in July. Subsequently down the field at Goodwood behind Saturday's York winner Fantasy Believer, he was then denied a clear run when fancied at Chester 18 days ago, and now drops in grade in a bid to put matters right. He is drawn high in this big field and has the very capable Ryan Moore to help, so must surely go close. Tony Carroll has been in good form, so Endless Summer cannot be discounted, while Witchry showed he is no back number by landing a class 5 handicap at Folkestone in July. Maltese Falcon finished second in a Group 3 at Longchamp last year so what is he doing in a claimer? Well, despite taking on top sprinters this year, his ability seems to have deserted him completely and he has been trailing in at the back, so maybe this will give him a confidence-boost, but for the winner we return to Plateau.
