An open handicap can go to Colwyn Bay at the main expense of Aphorism, Raffish and Calzaghe. The selection comes here in search of the hat-trick and Jane Chapple-Hyam's gelding must have solid claims. He has responded very well to the application of cheek-pieces and this very well-bred ex-Irish runner gets the vote to continue his hot streak. Raffish would ideally want the ground to soften so won't mind any rain that falls, whilst Aphorism comes here on the back of a decent break. James Fanshawe's filly steps back up to this trip and if fit enough she should go well, as she looks the type to improve this year. Critical Stage is in-and-out, whilst Calzaghe doesn't always relish a fight and will need to show a little bit more resolution at the death in order to win today although there is definitely plenty of ability there. The Composer has winning course form so warrants a check in the betting, and whilst Jimmy Fortune catches the eye on Gary Moore's Kerayasi, making his British debut, we have no problems with returning to Colwyn Bay as the selection.
