The trickier of the two divisions of the maiden and Devil To Pay is only a speculative choice ahead of Eightdaysaweek and Athania, who both have the benefit of a run behind them. Athania posted a respectable effort on debut last month and, as his stable's two-year-old usually come on for a run; a bold show can be expected. The Alan Jarvis-trained filly is one to monitor closely in the betting. Eightdaysaweek has a handful of big race entries later in the season and makes appeal on pedigree. She does need to show a lot of improvement from her debut run, though. None of the others have shown much so far and are hard to fancy on the evidence available. Therefore, it can pay to take a chance with Devil To Pay, who has plenty of winners locked away in his pedigree and, as he is introduced at a very modest level, the John Dunlop-trained gelding gets the nod.
