In depth

Verdict

Another headscratcher of a handicap in which Blakeset, Quiet Times, Noble Locks and Aahgowangowan are all likely to have their followers. Low draws tend to be favoured on this course and for that reason, Quiet Times is selected. Kevin Ryan's charge has a tendency to be rather tardy from the boxes but if he sets off on terms - there is every chance that he could be difficult to beat from his plum draw. Noble Locks won a farcical event at Wolverhampton and connections couldn't have picked a much tougher affair for a very much lamented return to turf action. Brecongill Lad owes connections nothing. He is well drawn but critically, connections will be hoping that the rain avoids the Ripon region overnight. Blakeset returns after absence. He has been confined to low grade events after a spell in America. The market should give the best clue as to whether he is fit enough to do himself justice. Aahgowangowan ran an eyecatching race at Pontefract earlier in the week. The draw could have been much kinder. Stakes are recommended at minimum and Quiet Times is selected in the hope that he can make full use of a favourable draw.
