Baldemar, Lieutenant Pigeon and Opus Maximus make most appeal in this handicap and the vote is given to Baldemar. The selection has not been seen out since September but he ran well at Chester last time and the form has worked out well. He should handle the ground and he remains unexposed, so he makes plenty of appeal. Lieutenant Pigeon won a handicap at Kempton last time when he beat Valhillen, but he looks to have more on his plate today. He should be competitive as his overall form is solid enough, but he is at his best on a faster surface. Opus Maximus won his maiden in decent style on his last outing but it remains to be seen how well-treated he is on his handicap debut. Paul Cole sends Desert Clover to post here and as the yard are in sparkling form he is another who has to be respected. He could go well at a price, but Baldemar looks to have solid claims and if he is fit enough to do himself justice on his seasonal bow then he should be hard to beat.
