Another competitive handicap where Cotillion, Inspirina and French Applause look leading players but a chance is taken on BAVARIAN NORDIC. In-form trainer Ann Duffield puts a visor on the selection for the first-time tonight and that can hopefully be decisive. The gelding has slipped to a mark of 70 after a string of defeats and has won over this trip from a 5lbs higher mark in the past at Southwell. Any rain would definitely help his cause, but he should be a sporting price for us here. Cotillion has obvious claims after a really good run in a Haydock maiden on good ground last time. However, his usual style of running suggests that he will be trying to make up ground here and this track is not normally suited to that. In addition, Ian Williams has failed to notch up a win here from four previous attempts and the portents are not good for his handicap debut from a mark of 73. Inspirina won an egg and spoon race at Brighton and a 5lb rise for that looks tough enough, although Paul Hanagan has been booked for the job and that is a positive. All three of Bollins Greta's career wins have come on good ground and she is still 4lbs higher than the best of those, so she may need a further slip in the weights to go in again. With a useful 5lb claimer up, Safebreaker could go very well provided the ground does not get soft, though any juice would definitely help French Applause, who has slipped to an attractive mark, is lightly-raced and has some stamina on the dam's side, while he is unexposed over this trip after just one try. Bavarian Nordic is suggested in a relatively open heat.
