Frimley's Matterry is taken to defy a penalty, with Briery Lane, Estoille, Tagula Bay and Dazzler Mac others with claims in another competitive handicap to round off the card. Frimley's Matterry bounced back to form here 11 days ago, landing the same race that he had two years earlier, and given his promising Thirsk effort the time before, it came as no real surprise. Ronnie Barr's six-year-old is still better handicapped than last year, and now that he has struck form, a follow-up under a 6lb penalty is no forlorn hope. Briery Lane was third at Newcastle last time and is none too consistent, but won over the course-and-distance earlier in the season, and if the rain stays away, could be a danger. Estoille is lightly-weighted and has been very consistent in defeat so has to be considered for the frame at least, while Tagula Bay will be all the better for this, his first outing in 86 days. Dazzler Mac looked the likely winner on his last visit here, but ran out of steam in the rain-softened ground, finishing second in the end. He too would not want a deluge, and if it stays dry, is yet another with fair claims. In what is a hard getting-out stakes for punters, only a narrow vote goes the way of Frimley's Matterry.
