In depth
Verdict
Although those with experience will be prevalent in the betting, we are tempted to side with one of the newcomers in this race and we opt for OLLON just ahead of Golden Hinde whilst Piccoluck will be better for a race and could challenge. Richard Fahey is having a good season with his juveniles whilst in comparison Mark Johnston is struggling somewhat with only two wins from thirty seven runs at the time of writing this. It wouldn't take a great deal of ability to win on debut given the opposition and although there are reservations on debut, it is worth noting that he has increased in price as a two-year-old and having shown encouraging signs is worth taking a risk with him here. Golden Hinde cost 95,000 guineas as a yearling and family ties suggest he will be suited by this trip as a first run out. He should have a chance if leaving behind any greenness on debut. Next Edition is perhaps flattered by two runner-up places so far this year including one at this course. They were ordinary enough maidens and he didn't ever look like winning either. We tentatively take a chance on Ollon.
