Verdict

The feature race of the day can go to TABARET ahead of Red Cape and Five Star Junior. The last-named held on well at Ayr last time out when partnered by Keiren Fallon but has a harder task here under a 2lb penalty. We prefer Tabaret who beat him at Doncaster in May and has held his form well since. Trainer Richard Whitaker had an impressive winner at Thirsk on Tuesday and off a favourable mark this course and distance winner can get back to winning ways. Esprit De Midas is 5lb higher than when second to Bond City at Ripon in April and that looks a tough mark (last win came off 79) so a bigger threat could be Red Cape who has been edging down the handicap but hinted at a return to form at Thirsk last time out. Discanti is another who may be too high in the handicap but his form has a solid feel to it, Indian Skipper looks to be lurking at the foot of the weights on a nice mark, whilst Jarrow and Sunrise Safari are both better than their latest efforts would suggest. The mare Filligree who ran well at Bath last time and the (generally) consistent Go Go Green are both considered, however the vote is given to Tabaret.
