Verdict

TEVEZ has been expensive to follow but is worth another shot at this level; Land Hawk and Advertise are others worth bearing in mind as alternatives. The last named has also been costly to follow and faces no easy task under top weight. However, he is still learning his trade and, as the step up to a mile may bring about some improvement, the mount of Frances Hayes (who was seen to good effect winning a similar contest at Kempton at the start of this month) can play a big part today. Land Hawk is a consistent type that reverts to turf after a series of near misses on the all-weather. Having returned from a break with a fair effort at Kempton nine days ago, the gelding has sound claims now his fitness levels will have been boosted. Eastern Gift is another to monitor in the betting, as he has dropped to a handy mark and appears have the right attitude to give encouragement to his inexperienced rider. However, Tevez, who holds King Columbo on a literal reading of his penultimate start, has more solid claims judging by recent standings. Having won or finished in the frame in 13 of his 29 previous starts, the five-year-old has more of a consistent profile than many of his opponents and, as such, the mount of Declan Cannon is the best bet to lead the field home this evening.
