    Verdict

CENTURIO has been found a chance to shine and gets the nod ahead of Weathervane and the well-bred newcomer Sheklaan. There is also likely to be more to come from Surface Tension, who was in need of the run on debut but can be expected to be a lot sharper on this occasion. Sheklaan is out of an Oaks winner so it's anticipated this trip won't be an issue on her racecourse debut. The betting market may be the best source to take some of the guesswork out of the equation about her manner in the minutes before the 'off'. Weathervane made a very satisfactory debut at Chepstow in May but was below that standard in a better race at Sandown last time out. It would be harsh to write him off just yet but he does need to post a better effort tonight. Therefore, it can pay to stick with Centurio, who showed great promise last season and, as the step up in trip is most likely to suit this son of his versatile sire, Pivotal; it would come as no surprise to see this Roger Charlton-trained colt take this in his stride before going on to better things.
