KIWI BAY can confirm Spring Mile form with Tartan Gunna and land this prize, with Harrison George, Fastnet Storm and Ezdeyaad others for the shortlist. Michael Dods hasn't had a winner yet this season which is a slight concern but any lack of stable form didn't stop this horse running well at Doncaster on his first start. He was over a length ahead of Tartan Guna that day and a solitary pound turnaround in the weights shouldn't alter those placings, especially as Mark Johnston's runner had race-fitness on his side. Our pick is a course and distance winner who acts on this ground, arrives in form and remains capable of better this season. Tartan Gunna may still be able to gain some prize money for connections as he's only a pound higher than his last winning mark and seems suited by a mile, despite having won over seven and nine furlongs too. Joe Fanning has won a couple of times on the horse and he looks primed to run another good race. Harrison George ran with great credit in The Lincoln and hails from the hottest yard in training, so he's got to be considered. The gelding has been left on the same mark following that run which is less of a concern than the fact he's not yet won beyond seven furlongs and that's reason enough for us to look elsewhere. Fastnet Storm can be hard to pass when on song and he's won over course and distance, but Tom Tate's runner makes his reappearance and has needed his first run of the season in the past. Ezdeyaad was beaten by the narrowest of margins on his sole start here and could reward each-way backers at a nice price. He hails from a yard in form and that helps to negate the concern that he may need this first run of the year. Jesse James has just his second start for this yard and is capable of better following just seven starts whereas Daaweitza looks harshly treated on the turf and needs further. Rainbow Mirage is of more interest than Daaweitza having had a run to put him spot on for this as he's an out-and-out miler, but Kiwi Bay remains the one we want to be on.
